Vice Chairman of MPR RI, Dr. Lestari Moerdijat, emphasizes the importance of collaboration among policymakers to address the issue of food waste production in Indonesia. The goal is to prevent a significant surge in food waste. This message was conveyed during the online discussion event, "Tata Kelola Sampah Makanan Indonesia," organized by Forum Diskusi Denpasar, held today.

As per the findings of a study conducted by Bappenas and several other institutions, Indonesia discards approximately 23-48 million tons of food waste annually between 2000-2019, equivalent to 115-184 kilograms per capita per year.

Deputy II of Food and Nutrition Vulnerability, National Food Agency, Dr. Drs. Nyoto Suwignyo, revealed that significant efforts have been made to prevent food loss and food waste. Food loss commonly occurs during production, post-harvest, and storage phases, while food waste is more likely to happen during distribution, marketing, and consumption phases.

The Forum Diskusi Denpasar 12 hopes that this discussion will lead to actionable strategies and a stronger commitment from all stakeholders to tackle the pressing issue of food waste in Indonesia.
